Pelican in Flight


The broad wingspan of a pelican is very impresive. It allows them to fly long distances with ease. I understand that these birds fly in to Saskatoon from Redberry Lake every morning and return every evening. That's almost 100 kms each way.

I like this photo because of its simplicity against the rich blue sky. A fast speed of 1/1600 of a second was necessary to get a sharp image ... plus a few attempts because they don't always work out as planned. There is no photoshop manipulation or cropping at all in this photo.
